This Cookie Policy explains how Undercurrent uses cookies and similar technologies on the Platform. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies — such as localStorage, sessionStorage, and pixel tags — serve comparable purposes. In this policy, "cookies" covers all of them.

Categories we use

Strictly necessary. Required for the Platform to work. You cannot opt out of these without breaking core functionality:

• Authentication cookies set by our partner Clerk (session, CSRF).
• A small preference cookie (uc_cookie_consent) recording your consent choice.
• Next.js / Vercel infrastructure cookies for routing and security.

Analytics (optional, consent-based). Used only if you accept:

• PostHog cookies and localStorage entries to measure feature usage and product funnels. PostHog does not load until you accept. If you reject, or do not choose, it sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and sends no data. Our servers send some PostHog events too (for example, when you post a notice). They do this only if you accepted analytics while signed in.

• If you arrive through a link that names where it came from (for example ?ref=ig), and you accept, we store that source in localStorage (uc_first_touch) and note it on your account when you sign up, so we know which channel brought people here. If you reject, we do not store it, and we remove it if you withdraw consent.

Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies, so it does not need your consent.

Functional. Remember your preferences (theme, locale). Set only when you interact with the relevant feature.

We do not use advertising cookies and we do not participate in cross-site tracking.

Your choices

When you first visit Undercurrent, a cookie banner asks whether you want to accept optional analytics cookies. Your choice is stored in uc_cookie_consent and — if you are signed in — on your user record so the choice persists across devices.

You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, or by clearing uc_cookie_consent in your browser. If you withdraw consent, we stop PostHog at once and delete its cookies and localStorage entries.

Most browsers also allow you to block or delete cookies directly. Blocking strictly-necessary cookies may prevent the Platform from working.

Retention

• Strictly-necessary session cookies: up to the end of your browser session.
• Strictly-necessary persistent cookies: up to 1 year.
• Analytics cookies: up to 1 year from your last visit.

Changes

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change.
